Sightseeing in Acapulco takes a scenic path rather than a historic one. In fact, the calandrias or horse-drawn carriages provide a leisurely way to see the sights here in Acapulco. The coastal roads require something a bit sturdier such as rental jeeps or cars by way of transportation. To the south of Acapulco, one will discover deserted lagoons and rocky cliffs along with the Sierra Madre Mountains. To the north of Acapulco, secluded beaches and lagoons are graced with the presence of palm trees.

Yachts departing from Acapulco Bay offer glorious views of sparkling sunsets, music and dancing, and fine dining. At Caleta Beach, tours of the bay in delightful glass-bottomed boats are featured for an afternoon’s adventure.

For a day of fun in the sun at one of the many beaches in Acapulco, traipse on over to the bay. Since the beaches are federally owned, they are open to the public. Most of the beaches, except for the isolated ones that are not good for swimming, offer rental locations for chairs, umbrellas, and hammocks. Even some of the comforts of home such as refreshments and showers are available along the beaches.

Acapulco is a great place for shopping as well. If it’s a bargain you’re after, visit the Mercado de Artesanнas in the old downtown area. An assortment of items from ceramics to curios to clothing to rugs to even more can be found here.

The Plaza Bahнa, an enclosed mall, features a vast array of stores, restaurants, and boutiques. Most of the hotels in the area feature their own shopping areas as well. The traditional afternoon break is usually honored, so stores might be closed between the hours of 2 and 4.

If upscale isn’t what you’re after, shop at the Municipal Market where the locals shop. Located off the Costera, the market offers everything from trinkets to fresh produce.
Also located just off the Costera, the Artesanнas Finas de Acapulco or AFA-ACA is a large department store that features all sorts of items from furniture to jewelry to pottery and more.
